Sancerre Documentation - Engine and stern gear notes.

Engine

Yanmar 2GM20 16hp @ 3400 rpm (continuous) / 18.2 hp @ 3600 rpm (DIN 1 Hr). Direct cooling  #26053 with 2.62:1 gearbox. Japanese made version.

Spares, consumables and notes:

  • Engine oil capacity 2 Litres (1.3 effective) 15W40.
  • Gear oil  0.3 Litres SAE 30. Gearbox oil level: manual implies 2 marks but there is only 1. The oil should be on the mark when dipping without screwing home. this is difficult to do a large syringe as used with epoxy with some tube attached will help extracting surplus or filling in a controlled manner.
  • Service kit: SK-MARINE-002. Contains everything for a 600 hr / annual service except pre-filter, oil and, if needed, belts and engine anodes, it includes:
    • Impeller: 104211-42071 replacing -42070. Note that the European build engine has a different one to this which is Japanese made.
    • Oil filter: Yanmar  119660-35150 (Bosch 250 130773 ??? or various).
    • On engine Fuel filter.
    • Gaskets.
    • It no longer includes lubricant for the impeller, gloves or a disposal bag)
  • First fuel filter: Delphi HDF 296.
  • Engine anodes: Yanmar 27210-200300 or Tecnoseal after market.
  • Alternator belt should be a heavy duty and toothed e.g. by Gates.
  • Water pump belt Yanmar 104511-78780 or "Lehman M-19", requires regular replacement (c 300 hours, annually?) due to low clearance with engine bearer.
  • Service manual says remove the starter motor to see the timing mark or alternatively it could be on the back of the engine starboard side. It's not behind the starter motor, aft position is difficult to see. Tappet clearance done "the old fashioned way" setting one valve tappet when the other on that cylinder is fully depressed.
  • When bleeding the fuel system the engine is often in the wrong position activating the low pressure pump so that the external lever does little or nothing, set the decompression leavers and turn the engine until it does but note the movement whilst pumping is still small and it takes a long time to fill the preliminary filter and would take even longer if the fuel is not switched off at the tank before replacing either filter.
